Brilliant, virtuosic, and exhilarating—Pointeworks presents COMPOSITIONS: An Evening of Katie Jenkins, a celebration of Resident Composer Katie Jenkins featuring three original ballet commissions performed with live music.
Curated by Artistic Director Sophie Williams, the evening brings together an international cast of world class artists for a program dedicated entirely to female voices in both choreography and composition.
The program features the return of Laine Habony’s Chasing Shadows, a striking piano solo work, alongside Jacquelyn Long’s Moving Forces for six dancers, piano, and violin. The evening culminates in a world premiere, Where No Storm Comes, by acclaimed choreographer Hélène Simoneau, featuring a soaring new score for live string quartet.

A truly rare gift is to have music and dance created together from day one. All three ballets presented in this program began with collaboration between composer Katie Jenkins and one of our 3 incredible women choreographers. This connection deepens the relationship between the music and the dance, something you can tangibly feel as you witness the art in motion.
Originally from Wales, Jenkins studied at Juilliard receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in composition and upon graduation has flourished into a world-renowned musical genius. Her works can be seen in many industries including dance and film.
It is a gift to bring her voice to San Diego in a program that is atypical to the ballet world. Women composers remain underrepresented in the classical world, making up approximately 5% of the music that ballet is performed to across the board.

Can I bring my child to the show?
Ans: Yes, any children above 4 yr old are welcome to attend.
I’ve never seen ballet before, will I get it?
Ans: Yes! Dance and music are universal language’s that you don’t need to understand, just sit back and experience the beauty.
How early should I get to the show?
Ans: We recommend arriving 20-30 minutes before to fully immerse yourself in the theater, find your seat, and get settled stress-free.

Parking
We recommend parking in the Horton Plaza Parking Garage (3–4 minute walk to the Balboa Theatre). Ask a theatre attendant for a parking validation sticker, which reduces parking to $10 for up to 6 hours.
Additional paid parking is available nearby, including the 225 Broadway Garage (prepaid options may be available) and other downtown lots. Limited metered street parking is available, but spaces are not guaranteed, and meters in this area remain enforced until 8:00 PM.
