The Music Behind the Ballet:

Pre-Performance Composer’s Circle with Katie Jenkins & Joshua Mhoon

June 14, 2025 | 7:00–7:30 PM
The Atkinson Room | The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center
Performance to Follow at 8:00 PM | Baker-Baum Concert Hall

Pointeworks warmly invites our Gold and Diamond Circle patrons to an intimate Composer’s Circle—a pre-performance experience offering rare access to the creative forces behind Chasing Shadows, the original score commissioned for Pointeworks’ 2025 season.

Held in the elegant Atkinson Room, this special evening features an engaging conversation with award-winning composer Katie Jenkins and renowned pianist Joshua Mhoon, as they explore the collaborative process that brought this powerful new work to life. Guests will enjoy live musical excerpts and thoughtful dialogue on the intersection of music and movement, revealing how choreography and composition evolved together throughout the creative process.

Katie Jenkins is a multi-award-winning Welsh composer and music producer based in New York City. Her work spans concert music, film, and interdisciplinary collaborations, with commissions from NASA, the New York Choreographic Institute, New York Fashion Week, and more. Jenkins was recently commissioned by The Juilliard School to compose a full orchestral work to open their 2024–2025 season at Alice Tully Hall, conducted by David Robertson. Most recently, she was commissioned by pianist Chloe Flower and recorded her new work at London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Jenkins composed Chasing Shadows for Pointeworks’ second season, which premiered at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City.

Joshua Mhoon, a Young Steinway Artist and Silver Medalist of the inaugural Nina Simone Piano Competition, has captivated audiences around the globe with his expressive artistry and exceptional technique. Rooted in both classical tradition and Black American music, Mhoon has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Musikverein. He is currently studying at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of world-renowned pianists Emanuel Ax and Julian Martin.

Bar service will begin at 7:00 PM, with curated cocktails and wine selections provided by Giuseppe Fine Catering. Light musical selections and conversation will set the tone for the evening before guests are invited to move into the Baker-Baum Concert Hall for Pointeworks’ 8:00 PM performance.

This event is by invitation only and exclusively open to Pointeworks’ Gold and Diamond Circle members (donors of $500 or more).
