FAMILIAR REFLECTIONS
A World Premiere by choreographer Nicole Von Enck
“I am so excited about my upcoming piece for PointeWorks because it gives my dancers and audiences a chance to explore and reflect on simplicity and familiar beauty. My aim is to evoke a feeling of “deja vu“ in their remembrance of past ballets as they experience the revel of live music in a completely new work. Historically men have choreographed this type of movement and I relish the idea of adding my female voice to the chorus.” - Nicole Von Enck

The new ballet "Familiar Reflections" by Nicole Von Enck combines a traditional classic pas de deux with the bright and exhilarating live performance of the piano score of Debussy's Arabesques No. 1.
“Familiar Reflections” gives dancers and audiences alike the chance to explore and reflect on the simple and familiar beauty of ballet. The aim is to evoke a feeling of déjà vu in the remembrance of past ballets, at the same time experiencing the revel of live music in a completely new work.
The transitions that Debussy makes between chords and notes give the traditional piano sound a sense of lightness and imagination. In the same way, Von Enck's choreography, which is a fresh twist on the classical repertoire, reflects this framework.
